Embedded in the existing vegetation, the future mosque of Villeneuve d’Ascq appears like an amenity in a garden. Beyond the symbolism of the form and character of architecture, the landscape remains a major element of our architectural approach. The project’s desire to preserve a good part of the site’s plant heritage aims to ensure that this particular place has a foundation and gentle integration into its environment.
The architecture of this equipment is marked by a duality between the symbolism of the form and the purity of the treatment. The rhythm of the arcades ensures the homogeneity of the whole from a plastic point of view and represents from a symbolic point of view the cultural references of the users.
We would say that the architecture of the mosque is an architecture that is recognizable, and in which the users recognize themselves. The sobriety of the treatment of the facades as well as the different ways of bringing natural light inside the building give this architecture its contemporary character.
